Doctoral Summer School 2013 - University Of Cantabria

2 September, 2013 - 09:00 to 6 September, 2013 - 17:00

The SG Network and the University of Cantabria are pleased to invite doctoral candidates and PhD holders from our member universities to participate in the Summer School on Applied Research: From University to Industry to be held between 1-6 September 2013. The event is next in a series of activities designed for young researchers to develop their professional skills and to advance their career paths.

Over the past few years there has been a philosophical change in the perception of what a PhD education means. Additionally to preparing professors and researchers, it is considered a tool to build highly qualified professionals for different private business sectors. The course on Applied Research: from the University to Industry aims at offering participants an overview of the link between University and Industry, by providing the opportunity to learn about research planning, protecting research findings, entrepreneurship and leading edge research in the private sector. To do so, the Santander Group European Universities’ Network and the Vice-Rectorate and the Doctoral School of the University of Cantabria have set-up this comprehensive course with local and international experts in the field.

The agenda also includes cultural and social activities that will take place in Cantabria, a region rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage, in the North of Spain, right by the Cantabrian Sea.
The Summer School brings forth an intercultural dimension in the diversity of participating students with respect to their specialisations and nationality. In this way, participants will enhance their intercultural, adaptability and networking skills. This is also supported by the fact that the Summer School – although mainly targeting doctoral candidates from the Santander Group Network – will also accept candidates from outside the Network to provide a greater diversity of students.
