LOCATION
The meeting will be held in the beautiful city of Leon, in the northwest of Spain. The city is the most northern province of the region Castilla y León and geographically is one of the most diverse provinces in the whole of Spain with high mountains - covered in snow in Winter - steep cliffs and valleys sheltering lakes and gorges on the one hand, and flat plains watered by Leon's many rivers and streams providing herds with pastures and farmers with land to plant cereal crops on the other. Towards the north-east nearing the border with Galicia, the province of León is characterized by rolling countryside, round mountains covered in forests and picturesque villages.

LOCAL FESTIVITIES
The SG LOs Meeting 2012 coincides with Leon’s local festivities of San Froilán so participants will be able to enjoy the city’s rich history and traditions. From October 5th until October 12th the city lives an atmosphere of medieval and ancient inspiration. Visitors will enjoy medieval street markets, falconry exhibitions, crafts and by-trade workshops, hundreds of interesting stands, numerous theatre plays, and flower and pottery fairs. The streets are crowded with the shows of Banners, stands to taste regional products, music marches, carts and exhibitions of regional sports.

HOW TO GET TO LEON
Flying to León:
Leon’s airport (code LEN) is located in the outskirts of León, La Virgen del Camino, only 7 km west from the town. It takes about 10 minutes by taxi (around 15€) to get to the centre. There is also a bus (3€) stopping at the city centre. The airport is served only by Iberia Airlines with connections to Barcelona. For the most advantageous rates, book the domestic flight separately to your international trip from the airline’s website www.iberia.com or any other travel web. This is your best option but unfortunately only available at reasonable fares if booked much in advance.
Flying to Valladolid:
The Valladolid airport (code VLL) is served by Iberia and Ryanair. There is a bus connecting this airport with León city.
Flying to Madrid:
If Madrid is your Spanish entry port, know that León is located 330km. north-west of Madrid City. Upon arrival at Barajas airport and depending on your selected travel means (train or bus) you will need to go to Chamartín train station or to the Mendez Alvaro Bus station. Trains are faster and more expensive (www.renfe.com). Buses have more frequency (www.alsa.es).
From Barajas Airport to Chamartin Train station:

  • By direct train: buy the ticket from the selling machine.
  • By metro: take Metro line 8, change at NUEVOS MINISTERIOS, take line 10 direction “Hospital del Norte” and get out at CHAMARTÍN.

From Barajas Airport to Mendez Alvaro bus station:
