SGroup Summer School in Shanghai 2020

The programme of the SGroup Summer School in Shanghai 2020 is under revision, due to the current situation with the Corona Virus and its consequences for mainland China.

In close contact with the liaison officers of SGroup member universities we are trying to find rational and responsible means to uphold the general application process and planning procedures as long as possible.

The call for registrations for the third edition of the SGroup Summer School on Intercultural China studies is now open!

 We offer students of SGroup universities a four-week programme including:

  • Lectures, seminars highlighting specific elements of history, geography, culture, law, politics, business and society in China
  • Chinese classes (4 hrs per day)
  • Company visits
  • Workshops (tai-chi, papercutting, Chinese calligraphy…)
  • Excursions to landmark sites (Hanghzou, Water Town TongLi, Xi´an, Beijing, the Great Wall..)
  • Up to 10 ECTS

Minimum pre-requisites

  • Students must be matriculated in one SG member university (
  • Students have to be proficient in English (B2 level)

Participation Costs

€1.600,00 per student, including tuition & accommodation for week 1 - 3 in Shanghai as well as the inner Chinese travel expenses during week 4 to Xi’an and Beijing. Travel expenses to China and fees for visa, health and liability insurance, vaccinations as well as living expenses (food) must be borne separately by the participants.

Please consult the International Relations Office of your University to find out if they are considering any scholarships for this programme.

SGroup is aiming at providing supporting scholarships in cooperation with its partners for up to 20 students. Details will be communicated in the Informative Webinar.

Important information

SGroup and the Think Tank for China are closely observing developments regarding the new corona virus outbreak in mainland China. For the time being we uphold our plans for the China Summer School in August 2020 and will continue preparations as well as monitoring the situation.
