The 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has already been released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Starting from 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world Top 500 universities annually based on transparent methodology and third-party data.

The SGroup member universities ranked among the top 500 are as follows: Ghent University (62), NTNU (101-150), Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble, now University of Grenoble Alpes (101-200), Sapienza University of Rome and University of Gothenburg (151-200), Eindhoven University of Technology (201-300), Polytechnic University of Valencia, Justus Liebig University of Giessen, University of Liege, and University of Porto (301-400), University of Bayreuth, University of Minho, and the University Rovira i Virgili (401-500).
